R is for Reveal
It's finally here! Today is the day we get to see all the wonderful projects people made with their buttons!
If you're not familiar with the idea of "reveal," think of this as a makeover show. These designers have taken one or more of the buttons they received from their partners during the Button Swap and created something new with them. I'm sure you'll get some new ideas looking at these projects.
Love buttons? Be sure to check out the bottom of this post for information on how to enter the giveaway.
Here are the first three designs:
Donna
I had the wonderful treat of swapping buttons with Katrine Ravienna of Norway. Katrine sent me four wonderful buttons as you can see in a picture. The two silver ones came off of a knitted garment of Katrine's Grandfather. I felt so honored to receive these special buttons. It is a bit hard to see in the picture maybe, but the one has a little hedgehog on it. The other silver one has a snowflake. The two purplish ones have what I would describe as bamboo pieces.

The other buttons I designed a new necklace around. I made fabric yo-yo's (which I put a plastic ring inside as I close them) to coordinate with the colors, using a dusty pink and a grey/black. Each yo-yo has a button for the center. The larger focal point one I put the hedgehog button on and added a couple special gray glass buttons on each side. It is all connected by a simple chain with a few black beads added.

I thought about the strange weather we have had this year with a mixture of storms and warm sun and it led me to create a flower with the snowflake button. The petals are made of cotton fabric squares which are folded and stitched together. Then I added two layers of crocheted flowers and put the snowflake button in the center. I added a felt scalloped circle to the reverse side with a pin attachment on it. |

I love buttons and beads and fabrics. The combination of all three is really fun for me. I often try to always include fibers in everything I do. Thanks to Katrine for giving me such wonderful buttons for these creations! |
Marti
|
Marti created these earrings by removing the shanks from the buttons and adding glass beads to both sides of the flat discs. Marti is a bead and button maker, not a jewelry designer, but I think she did a terrific job. I can totally see these being worn with a "little black dress" for an evening out on the town. Marti's swap partner was Cory. |
Michelle (that's me)
My swap partner was Malin, who wrote a lovely blog post on the original buttons she sent me. |

I really love this button! It looks like melted caramel in the center and the ivory-colored frame has a nice texture. Sometimes when I really like a bead (or in this case, button), it's harder for me to create a design because I want to make something "worthy." That's what happened here. I played around with several bracelet designs to show off this button, but didn't love any of them enough to actually add a clasp and crimps to finish one. I think I want to try some knotting with cord, since the bead holes are all large and maybe try something asymmetrical. (If you have design suggestions, please post them!) |

These earrings were fun and easy to make. They feature two of the brown buttons from Malin, some faceted Czech glass, Vintaj brass ear wires and filigree. I colored the filigree to give it turquoise highlights. I have jewelry ideas for both of the other buttons I received, which is really exciting! Both are going to take a little time to make and I hope to start working on them this weekend. |
