Last month I purchased a handmade ceramic pendant by Elaine Ray at Ornamentea. While I loved the color of the pendant, the larger size (50 mm) made me think about turning it into an ornament, rather than using it for a necklace.
A Twist on Christmas Colors
Sometimes the traditional bright red and green of Christmas can be too much. I found that altering the shades of the colors—the mossy green of the pendant and the burgundy wooden ovals—made the color palette much more sophisticated. The colors still say Christmas, but they don't scream it.
The brown edges of the pendant paired well with some sweet Vintaj brass flower bead caps, copper spacers, brass head pins, and the brass leaf connector, also from Ornmentea, was the perfect size for the pendant. A large (10 mm) Vintaj brass jump ring topped with a sheer ivory bow was the perfect finishing touch. Ivory or white pearls could be used in addition too—or in place of—the wooden beads for more of a snowy, Christmas-y look.
I love how this ornament turned out—and how quickly I made it! I don't know about you, but holiday gift-making and decorating time is already at a premium and I am seeking out quick projects that I can make in minutes, not hours.
