This may be one of the crazier pairs of earrings I've ever made!
These nonmatching statement earrings are the kind of fun vacation jewelry you could wear at a resort or on a cruise. I like the way the curves of the wire resemble very stylized waves. The dangles at the bottom give these earrings a lot of movement when worn.
Beads & Wire
The color palette for the November Pretty Palettes challenge focused on turquoise and yellow, not a combination I use much (if ever!). I decided to use the same citrine chips that Erin Prais-Hintz chose and some turquoise (dyed howlite) nuggets that I already had in my bead stash.
Note: If you're shopping for citrine, you'll find a range of colors that include white, brown, and amber/yellow. I chose the yellowest strand I could find.
I've been playing around with heavy (14-16 gauge) wire lately, making the Paris in September bracelet and the Swirled Cuff Bracelet earlier this year. I still had a few short wire scraps left and began bending them randomly.
Basic Instructions
1. I formed the loops and bends in the heavy 14-gauge wire using a combination of my bail-making pliers (also called forming pliers) and my fingers. You can also try using the very widest part of your round-nose pliers.
2. I strung the citrine chips on brass head pins of varying lengths. I chose chips that were fairly similar in size.
3. I used 26-gauge wire to wrap the turquoise to the heavy gauge wire and attached a pair of brass ear wires to the wire loops at the top.
