Big, bold pieces are selling well for me at a small gallery in Pennsylvania.
If you know my jewelry style at all, you're probably laughing at that statement. Big and bold is not my usual thing; I tend towards smaller, more delicate pieces.
It took several weeks of tinkering to come up with new jewelry designs. I discovered that even if the scale isn't in my comfort zone, the finished jewelry all has one or more of my trademark elements: layered elements, mixed metals, fun charms and pendants, reversible or hidden elements, or stamped words.
Here are two of the jewelry designs I sent:
Fly Free Necklace
This airplane necklace could probably best be described as "steampunk cute" or "steampunk whimsy." It has a softer, more playful vibe than what traditional steampunk encompasses. The faceted glass black beads are vintage and wire wrapped with steel wire. I hand stamped the "fly free" message on the clouds. The propellers on the hollow airplane pendant really spin!
Compass Cuff
This hammered brass cuff is big and bold with a simple layered centerpiece of a hand darkened copper circle and a beautiful silver-plated compass piece. This bracelet is more of a "steampunk light" design. It's the kind of jewelry you could wear to a business meeting or a night out. It shows a little personality, but it's not overly complicated or showy.
Visit Allegory Gallery in Ligonoir, Pennsylvania to see the whole collection or ask them about shipping if you'd like to buy the jewelry shown here.
