I recently finished a custom order of couple of steampunk accessories for a man who was going to be a groomsman in a steampunk-themed wedding. I've made a lot of steampunk-style jewelry for women before. (In fact, I'm finishing some new steampunk necklaces and bracelets for Allegory Gallery this month.) Accessories for men proved a fun challenge.
The first piece is a filigree bow tie with a clip that could be layered on top of a real fabric bow tie. I used several different types of metal on the bow tie, being careful not to weigh it down too much so that it would still be comfortable to wear.
The second piece is a pin that could be worn on a hat or a pair of suspenders. I've used a mix of brass, aluminum, and copper. I kept the layers thin. If you make a pin too heavy, it will flop forward. My favorite part is the feather charm. I bought a whole bag of those charms for a project that didn't materialize, so it felt especially good to be able to use one.
